Stressing the importance of disaster preparedness in Turkey which is located on a fault-line and frequently faces such disasters is very important, the Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk said, "Recently, there were earthquakes in Elazığ, İstanbul and İzmir. We have been watching the camera recordings of schools during the earthquakes. We must rather drop on the floor, take cover and hold instead of trying to escape. In order to internalize it, we must start from the beginning; from childhood, provide children's books and disaster training for children. A participant of the advanced disaster training project in Japan Nurben Doğan's story book entitled, "Drop, Cover, Hold on" about what must be done during a disaster will be distributed free to pre-school and first and second grade students. I would like to congratulate all teachers who won awards and international recognition. We must always be prepared against earthquakes. We want to act sensitively about this subject and equip all of teachers and students with lifesaving skills and knowledge. Since 2019, more than 250 thousand teachers have received disaster training. 25 teachers attended advanced disaster training in Japan. Our cooperation with Japan concerning advanced disaster training started to yield results. Our colleagues who attended this training will shed a light to disaster preparedness efforts with the projects they designed."
